This three-day journey links Errachidia and Marrakech by way of the Merzouga desert. You visit nomads in their tents, listen to Gnaoua music and dance in Khamlia, discover an old eyeliner mine and see Merzouga’s wild lake, just a few kilometres from the dunes. You also walk through a palm grove, ride camels, and watch both sunset and sunrise over the sand, with a night in a camp deep in the Sahara. Then you visit Ouarzazate and the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Your tour finishes in Marrakech.
The first day takes you from Errachidia to Merzouga; the second is a full 4×4 day in the area, ending with a camel ride to camp for the night; on the last day you travel west via Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou and across the High Atlas to Marrakech.
Good to know: the Ksar of Aït-Ben-Haddou, one of the stops on this itinerary, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your driver meets you at Errachidia (ERH) airport or your accommodation and takes you south to the Sahara dunes of Merzouga. Overnight in Merzouga.
Flight tip: domestic flights from Marrakech operate three days a week (Ryanair) and land between 7am and 3pm, while flights from Casablanca run every day (Royal Air Maroc) and land at midnight. We adjust the itinerary to your arrival time.
Approx. 2 hours driving · Overnight: Merzouga
Following breakfast, the whole day is dedicated to the Merzouga desert (Erg Chebbi): sand dunes, a seasonal wild lake, fossil sites, small mines and oases.
The day starts with an off-road drive to an old kohl (eyeliner) mine, followed by Berber tea with nomads in their woven tents. Then you visit Khamlia for Gnaoua music and dance. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon you walk through a palm grove and drive to Merzouga’s wild lake, also called the flamingo lake.
Later, camels take you across the dunes to a high dune for sunset, and then on to the luxury camp for Berber drums under a starry sky. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Approx. 2 hours driving · Overnight: Luxury desert camp, Merzouga
Start the day early with sunrise in the heart of the Sahara. Following breakfast, you return to Merzouga, meet your driver and set off west, with stops at viewpoints and for coffee, until you reach Ouarzazate and free time for lunch.
After lunch the drive continues towards Marrakech via the famous ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n’Tichka pass and arrive in Marrakech, where we drop you at the airport or your accommodation.
Please note: if the long drive feels like too much, the tour can end at Errachidia airport instead, or you can add a day with the 4-day Errachidia to Merzouga and Marrakech.
Approx. 9 hours driving

Depending on the camp, the camel ride takes from 40 minutes up to about 1.5 hours. If you would rather not ride, a camp 4×4 can drive you and your bags to and from the camp. Quad bikes (ATVs) are also available at an extra cost.
